A girl researches in the forest for anomalies in the trees. She discovers an oddly viscous liquid inside.
Progress
For this project, I really wanted depict a fantasy natural scientist in her element. While I did more- the two of my favorite thumbnails were of her and her partner in a field of flowers, and one of her alone in the forest. We ended up choosing the one where she’s alone in the forest.
For the sketch, I focused on the environment- which isn’t something I had really done before.
I actually had quite a bit of trouble with the color palette. When value-relationships are at play, such as to get a sense of depth, I use grisaille and dump a bunch of colors on top so I can get the full value scale without having to pick out individual colors.
Paper Time!
This was one of my favorite uses of graphic shape vs. textured areas! I liked using the texture to my advantage when making clusters and I think it came out quite nice!
